Whitmore's two-way eligibility opens a small Lakers path
Cam Whitmore, waived by Cleveland roughly a week after arriving there in the five-team Peyton Watson sign-and-trade, is again a free agent after earlier stops with Houston and Washington.
NBA insider Jake Fischer said on a Bleacher Report livestream that Whitmore has two-way eligibility given his three years of service, though it's unclear whether he'd accept that path with guaranteed spots scarce; Heavy reports his 2026-27 salary has been stretched down to about $1.82 million and calls a two-way deal his most realistic route back into the league.
Both ClutchPoints and a Fadeaway World column float the Lakers as a fit, noting Los Angeles worked Whitmore out before the 2023 draft, but neither cites actual Lakers interest.
The Lakers are already at their roster limit with three two-way spots filled and face hard-cap constraints, meaning they'd need to move a player to create room.
