Josh Green and Cam Whitmore floated as waive-and-stretch candidates

Saturday, August 29 at 4:00 pm Central is the cutoff for teams to waive a player and stretch his guaranteed 2026/27 cap hit, since the current CBA requires the player to clear waivers before September 1.

Hoops Rumors, citing Yossi Gozlan of The Third Apron, notes the Timberwolves, Pelicans and Cavaliers all have agreed deals that don't fit under their hard caps as reported.

Josh Green's $14.7MM expiring deal in Minnesota and Cam Whitmore's $5.5MM in Cleveland are seen as prime stretch candidates if no trade emerges, with Jordan Hawkins' $7MM a possible route for New Orleans.

Sacramento already used the provision on DeMar DeRozan's $10MM partial guarantee to duck the tax, and Denver did the same with Jonas Valanciunas' $2MM.
