Lakers GM Rob Pelinka said the team could explore a consolidation trade at his season-opening press conference, fueling speculation about the roster.
The Lakers sit at 16 guaranteed contracts, one over the league's regular-season limit, after signing Matisse Thybulle in late July. Jaden Hardy, Dalton Knecht and Jarred Vanderbilt are seen as the likeliest players to be moved or waived before camp.
Matisse Thybulle joined the Lakers in free agency on a veteran minimum deal after seeing his role shrink in Portland. He was a two-time All-Defensive selection with Philadelphia but has struggled to stay on the floor, playing just 45 games in each of the past two seasons.
