Rob Pelinka told reporters the Lakers have 16 guaranteed contracts, one over the regular-season limit, and must resolve it by their Oct. 21 opener against Golden State. He said waiving a player is one option but a consolidation trade sending out two players for one is also under consideration.
A proposed deal would send Zion Williamson and Trendon Watford to Los Angeles for Quentin Grimes, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Jarred Vanderbilt and Jake LaRavia. A variant swaps in Bryce McGowens instead of Watford, letting the Lakers keep LaRavia.
