Grizzlies to waive Hawkins in mutual split after trade
Memphis waived Jordan Hawkins on Friday, confirming a move Shams Charania reported as a mutual decision to let the recent trade acquisition find a new team in free agency. The Grizzlies owe his full $7,021,895 salary for the season if he clears waivers as expected.
Memphis had just acquired Hawkins from New Orleans in September in a deal sending AJ Johnson and Taj Gibson to the Pelicans. Hawkins averaged 5.1 points in 51 games for New Orleans last season, after going 14th overall in 2023 out of UConn, where he helped the Huskies win a national title.
