Towns, Hart both projected to take below-max deals in New York

James L. Edwards III of The Athletic says it's "very realistic" that both Karl-Anthony Towns and Josh Hart sign extensions well under their maximums, helping the Knicks navigate the second apron.

Edwards sketches a three-year, $135M deal for Towns averaging $45M annually, well below his four-year, $272M max, while Hart could land in the $70-80M range over three years against a possible $132M ceiling.

SNY's Ian Begley previously floated a similar $45M-a-year framework for Towns, saying the center "clearly loves New York." Neither deal is agreed, and both are described as projections based on league sourcing rather than completed negotiations.
