Taj Gibson retires, will join Splitter's Bulls coaching staff
Taj Gibson announced his retirement Monday after 17 NBA seasons. He is set to join Chicago as an assistant under new head coach Tiago Splitter, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.
Gibson began his career with the Bulls as a 2009 first-round pick and later played for Oklahoma City, Minnesota, New York, Washington, Detroit, Charlotte and Memphis, most recently appearing in 10 games for the Grizzlies at 41.
He had been traded to New Orleans earlier this month before choosing to retire instead of playing an 18th season.
