Grizzlies sign Taj Gibson

Taj Gibson announced his retirement Monday after 17 NBA seasons. He is set to join Chicago as an assistant under new head coach Tiago Splitter, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

New Orleans has waived Taj Gibson days after landing him from Memphis in the Jordan Hawkins trade. Gibson had signed a multi-year deal with the Grizzlies back in February. In his brief stint with Memphis this season, the 40-year-old averaged 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds in 9.7 minutes across 10 games.

Stephen Curry remains eligible for a two-year, $137 million extension but has made no move, with Golden State content to wait as he weighs a max deal, a discount, or holding off until next summer.
