Russell waived by Memphis, agrees to join Shanghai Sharks
D'Angelo Russell has signed with the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association for the coming season after Memphis waived him in September, with the Grizzlies eating $5.9 million of his salary.
He had exercised his $5 million player option before a midseason trade sent him from Dallas to Washington, which then dealt him to Memphis in a six-team deal this offseason.
Last season split between Dallas and Washington, he averaged 10.2 points, 4.0 assists and 2.3 rebounds over 26 games. The 2015 No. 2 overall pick previously had stints with the Lakers, Nets, Warriors and Timberwolves before returning to the Lakers in a 2023 trade.
