Pistons put five-year, $200M extension on the table for Duren
UpdateDuren agrees to fully guaranteed 5-year, $200M deal with Detroit
Detroit has raised its extension offer to Jalen Duren to five years and $200 million, up from an earlier $190 million proposal, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.
NBA insider Jake Fischer, writing on Bleacher Report's NBA Insider Notebook, says $200 million was the number Duren's camp sought a year ago. Duren made Third Team All-NBA last season and is eligible for a full five-year, $287 million max that Detroit won't offer.
Training camp is about a week away and there is still no deal. Fischer said 15 rival agents and executives he spoke with cannot understand why Duren hasn't signed, and that Detroit has ruled out a sign-and-trade.
Duren's alternative is a roughly $9.6 million qualifying offer, sending him to unrestricted free agency next summer. Sacramento and Milwaukee have shown interest, and The Athletic reports one more team would offer him a max contract down the road.
