Pelinka says Lakers may consolidate roster before opening night
Rob Pelinka told reporters the Lakers have 16 guaranteed contracts, one over the regular-season limit, and must resolve it by their Oct. 21 opener against Golden State. He said waiving a player is one option but a consolidation trade sending out two players for one is also under consideration.
Walker Kessler, Quentin Grimes, Sandro Mamukelashvili and Collin Sexton can't be traded until Dec. 15, which puts the spotlight on Jarred Vanderbilt, Dalton Knecht and Jaden Hardy as possible trade pieces. Pelinka said training camp and preseason play will help decide who stays.
