Knicks extension talks stall as camp battle for third center brews
UpdateKnicks confirm extension talks on ice for four players this season
New York will not negotiate extensions for Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart and Miles McBride until later in the season, per a team statement shared by ESPN's Shams Charania. Towns told Newsday's Steve Popper that none of his goals, a new deal, keeping the core together and being valued, have come close to happening.
Hart said the uncertainty creates anxiety that follows players home, and he warned that if things aren't resolved by February, trade-deadline talks could follow. Owner James Dolan has signaled the Knicks want to stay under the second apron rather than pay all three.
Separately, New York is auditioning Drew Eubanks, James Wiseman and Tony Bradley for a third center spot behind Andre Drummond, with no clear favorite yet. Coach Mike Brown praised both Wiseman and Bradley this week, and the team says it could still address the position via trade later in the season.
