Curry signals he'd take less money to keep Warriors flexible
UpdateCurry takes team-friendly two-year, $116M extension with Warriors
Stephen Curry has yet to decide on a contract extension nearly a month after becoming eligible on Aug. 29, one that could be worth up to two years and $136.7 million.
He told ESPN's Anthony Slater he's open to taking less than a max deal, wanting to give the front office roster flexibility given his career stage and the team's title urgency.
The Warriors have offered him several paths, including a one- or two-year max, a below-max deal, or simply waiting until later in the 2026-27 league year.
Curry said he wants to remain in Golden State long-term and that the uncertainty won't affect his play or create locker-room drama. He remains extension-eligible until June 30, 2027.
A max deal would cut Golden State's projected 2026 cap space from over $100 million to roughly $45 million, while Curry currently plays on a one-year, $62.6 million expiring contract for 2026-27.
