Amen Thompson locks in $208M extension with Rockets

Amen Thompson and the Rockets have agreed to a five-year, $208 million extension carrying a 10% trade kicker, according to ESPN's Shams Charania. The deal begins once Thompson completes the final year of his rookie contract at roughly $12.3 million, running through the 2031/32 season.

Thompson earned All-Defensive First Team honors last season while leading the NBA in minutes played and averaging 18.3 points, 7.8 rebounds, 5.3 assists and 1.5 steals across both guard and forward spots, though his three-point shooting remains a weak spot at 21.6 percent.

The 2023 fourth overall pick joins Alperen Sengun and Jabari Smith Jr. as long-term building blocks in Houston, and becomes the second player from his draft class to sign an extension after Victor Wembanyama's deal with San Antonio.
