Wembanyama stands alone as 2023 class extension talks stall
Brian Windhorst said on The Hoop Collective that Victor Wembanyama is the only player from the 2023 draft to have signed a rookie-scale extension, and that talks elsewhere have gone nowhere.
He named Amen and Ausar Thompson as players both teams would like to lock up, with Windhorst quoting a decision-maker who said apron flexibility is driving the caution.
Brandon Miller and Cason Wallace are the other candidates, with Detroit's Ausar Thompson talks possibly waiting on a resolution to Jalen Duren's restricted free agency. The October deadline may be when things finally move, otherwise 2027 restricted free agency gets crowded.
