Waiting past Jan. 6 could net Giannis an extra $82M

Giannis Antetokounmpo became extension-eligible with Miami on Oct. 1, able to sign for three years and $194 million or two years and $135.1 million. Holding off until Jan. 6, the six-month mark since the July trade from Milwaukee, would unlock a four-year, $276 million deal.

Going further and waiting for 2027 free agency, the path Nikola Jokic is taking in Denver, could land him five years and $357 million. That route would push his career on-court earnings to roughly $754 million, a league record.
