Towns wants to extend with Knicks, but could still test market
Karl-Anthony Towns prefers to sign an extension with New York rather than test free agency, ESPN's Brian Windhorst said on The Hoop Collective podcast. Towns holds a $61 million player option for 2027-28 and is owed $57 million next season, giving the Knicks a decision on locking him up long-term.
While Towns is eligible for a four-year, $272 million supermax extension, New York Post columnist Stefan Bondy predicts he instead signs for four years and $180 million to remain with the Knicks, following Jalen Brunson's example of taking a team-friendly deal to help New York stay under the second luxury tax apron.
That figure reflects Bondy's own prediction rather than any offer or agreement.
