Slater expects Nets to move Porter Jr. before the trade deadline
Anthony Slater said on the Third Apron podcast that Brooklyn views Michael Porter Jr. as a trade chip rather than a building block. He said extension talks have stalled and doubts the Nets risk losing him for nothing in free agency.
Slater named the Warriors and Pistons as plausible destinations, with Golden State needing scoring if Jimmy Butler's recovery drags and Detroit hunting for firepower after losing Tobias Harris. Porter is in the final year of his five-year, $179.3M deal.
A separate trade proposal from Fadeaway World would send Porter from Brooklyn to New Orleans for Jordan Poole, Saddiq Bey, DeAndre Jordan and a top-10 protected 2028 first-round pick.
It frames Porter as an expiring $40.8 million asset. The Pelicans already remade their roster this offseason, adding Bennedict Mathurin and sending Jordan Hawkins, Micah Peavy and picks to Memphis for AJ Johnson and Taj Gibson.
