Simmons floated as the Knicks' next big-man swing after Richards picks Miami

Nick Richards signing with Miami leaves New York, carrying only 13 standard contracts, still hunting frontcourt help, and Ben Simmons is raised as an option.

Simmons recently worked out in Florida with Kings GM Scott Perry watching, and Carmichael Dave of Sactown Sports 1140 said an observer thought he "looked fantastic."

The Knicks pursued Simmons a year ago: Marc Stein reported a one-year offer he turned down while seeking more than the minimum, while SNY's Ian Begley said interest existed without a formal offer.

New York sits about $3.3 million under the second apron, a line ownership has said it will not cross, and a minimum deal carries roughly a $2.5 million charge.
