Rockets lock in Jabari Smith Jr. on extension

A trade idea would send De'Aaron Fox to Houston for Fred VanVleet and Jabari Smith Jr., clearing room for Dylan Harper in San Antonio. Another proposal has Myles Turner moving from Milwaukee to the Clippers to open a starting center job for Kel'el Ware.

NBA insider Brian Windhorst said Houston locking up Amen Thompson on a $208 million extension frees the Rockets to pursue another big trade, though he was unsure of the timing. He named Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun as the two other max-money players who could realistically move.

Houston has waived two-way center Rafael Castro, according to ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel.
