Porter and Nets stall on an extension, trade buzz creeps in
Michael Porter Jr. enters the final year of his five-year, $179 million deal at $40.8 million, and Sean Deveney reports Brooklyn and the forward are at an impasse over a new deal.
An anonymous Eastern Conference executive tells Deveney that any suitor would weigh whether Porter's asking price matches last year's breakout, with the Nets still positioned to land a first-round pick if they trade him.
Nets general manager Sean Marks and Porter's agent Mark Bartelstein have downplayed urgency publicly, but Deveney notes talks have gone quiet.
ClutchPoints' Brian Lewis and insider Erik Slater also report the sides remain apart. Slater expects Brooklyn to trade Porter before the deadline rather than risk his value dropping. Porter, 28, averaged 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists last season, his first away from Denver.
