Pistons' offer to Duren reportedly carries a weight clause
Detroit's five-year, $200 million offer to restricted free agent Jalen Duren includes a clause requiring monthly weight checks, according to Hunter Patterson and Sam Amick of The Athletic.
The pair report that Duren and his camp were caught off guard by the request. League sources tell The Athletic the Pistons wanted Duren to slim down after their second-round exit to Cleveland and believe his weight hurt him in the playoffs.
Detroit Free Press reporter Omari Sankofa II questions whether the tension over the clause could still be resolved once a deal gets done. RealGM reports Duren is now considering signing his one-year, $9.6 million qualifying offer instead, which would make him an unrestricted free agent next summer.
His camp and league sources have pushed back on the weight characterization, noting he has played at least 61 games in each of his four seasons.
