Nets, Porter Jr. in no rush on extension talks
Nets general manager Sean Marks says extension talks with Michael Porter Jr. remain ongoing but unhurried, with no deadline pressuring either side this season. Marks wants more consistency, defense, rebounding and intangibles from Porter before the team commits to a new deal.
Porter, extension-eligible since July 6 and playing on an expiring $40.8 million contract, could technically sign for up to four years and $234 million, though nobody expects him to get the full amount.
Porter said he is focused on basketball rather than a new contract and wants to stay in Brooklyn, agreeing he still has more to prove and that winning matters more to him than scoring numbers.
