Leonard-Raptors extension talks advance after Clippers balked
Kawhi Leonard has agreed to a two-year, $115 million extension with the Raptors, below the $125M-plus figure Marc Stein had floated. TSN Sports put the max he could have signed at $126 million.
The deal includes a player option for 2028-29 and replaces the final year of his Clippers contract, which would have paid $50.3 million in 2026-27. Agent Harrison Gaines of SLASH Sports confirmed the terms to Shams Charania and ESPN.
Stein had reported advanced talks and said the Clippers refused to extend Leonard before trading him to Toronto. That trade was briefly held up by an NBA probe into his original Clippers signing, which cost Los Angeles five first-round picks and a $30 million fine for owner Steve Ballmer.
Leonard was fined $700,000 but not suspended. The trade closed in September, with the extension following shortly after.
