Sexton says chance to win on a big stage drew him to LA
Collin Sexton's two-year, $19.2 million Lakers contract, signed via the mid-level exception, includes a player option for 2027-28. He'll wear No. 10.
Speaking on the Mason and Ireland show and separately to ESPN LA, Sexton said the chance to win on a big stage, and prioritizing a winning organization, drove his decision after eight straight years missing the playoffs across stints in Cleveland, Utah, Charlotte and Chicago.
He averaged 15.4 points, 3.3 assists and 1.1 steals last season split between Charlotte and Chicago.
Sexton praised the Lakers' welcoming locker room and said he feels he fits right in alongside the team's other new additions, crediting coach JJ Redick for showing belief in his abilities during the pitch.
He also said he has studied Marcus Smart and Avery Bradley's defensive impact and wants to bring similar energy off the bench behind Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves.
