Knicks insider flags McBride as trade candidate over cap crunch
James L. Edwards III of The Athletic flagged Miles McBride as New York's most likely trade candidate before the 2027 deadline if the sides can't agree on an extension, given McBride enters the final year of his deal at roughly $4 million and could command a raise the Knicks may struggle to fit under the second apron.
New York Post reporter Stefan Bondy now reports that McBride passed the August 11 soft deadline without signing an extension, making a new deal unlikely and leaving the Knicks free to trade him in-season.
Bondy calls McBride's favorable, expiring contract his best trade asset if New York wants to add a center or shake up its rotation behind Andre Drummond and Karl-Anthony Towns, floating the Hornets, Grizzlies, Clippers, Nets and Suns as speculative fits with no reporting tying any of them to actual talks.
