Kings' price tag keeps stalling Hornets' pursuit of Sabonis

NBA insider Jake Fischer said on a Bleacher Report livestream that Charlotte remains interested in Domantas Sabonis but won't meet Sacramento's asking price.

Fischer later added that rival executives actually view Sabonis as having negative trade value rather than the positive return the Kings are seeking. Teams would want compensation to absorb his $45.5M salary this year and $48.6M next, especially with an extension looming.

Other teams are wary of granting that extension. Sacramento is expected to let Sabonis play through the season to rebuild his value before a possible deadline trade, with Charlotte, Detroit and Brooklyn floated as suitors. Fischer said Charlotte stays worth monitoring if the price drops but called a deal unlikely soon.

Sactown Sports 1140's Matt George added that the two sides haven't spoken since weeks before the June draft, disputing recent trade chatter.
