Kings' Duren-for-Sabonis sign-and-trade dream called dead on arrival
ESPN's Tim MacMahon reported on The Hoop Collective podcast that Sacramento would love to sign-and-trade for Jalen Duren and send Domantas Sabonis to Detroit, but called the idea dead, noting the Pistons have no interest.
Anthony Slater argued Duren fits what the Kings are building, though MacMahon pointed to Detroit's cap math as the real obstacle: absorbing Sabonis's $45.4M hit would push the Pistons, currently $36.4M under the tax, over the line.
Duren remains the top free agent still unsigned, with Detroit preferring to keep him around $20-plus million annually alongside Cade Cunningham, while the Pistons' offer reportedly sits about $5M short of his ask.
MacMahon added that Sacramento's interest still gives Duren's camp leverage in the stalled talks. The Clippers are also floated as a lurking suitor, though their recent loss of five first-round picks could complicate any deal.
