KAT extension stalls, Vanderbilt and Porzingis eyed as trade chips
Karl-Anthony Towns said talks with New York on a new deal are not close, after reports put the sides apart on money with the Knicks reportedly offering four years and $200 million against his $272 million max.
New York Post reporter Stefan Bondy quoted Towns saying none of the conditions for an extension are close to being met. Separately, the Lakers have barely played Jarred Vanderbilt in the preseason, clouding any plan to rebuild his trade value before a deadline move.
In Golden State, Kristaps Porzingis's small guarantee next season makes him a theoretical trade chip, though his illness and the market's lack of appetite for salary dumps complicate any deal.
