Hornets want a long-term deal with Brandon Miller before Oct. 19

Brandon Miller is eligible for a rookie scale extension until October 19, and Charlotte basketball operations boss Jeff Peterson wants a long-term deal done.

Miller is still rehabbing from May shoulder surgery and hasn't been cleared for full basketball activity, telling Roderick Boone of The Charlotte Observer his recovery is progressing well.

ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel reports Charlotte views Miller as its franchise cornerstone after trading LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges, and expects a new deal, likely a five-year extension, at some point.

Miller holds a $15.1 million player option for next season, and Siegel said the Hornets could wait until he reaches restricted free agency if no deal is reached first. Siegel added the shoulder injury history could affect the timing, though he sees little real risk of Miller hitting the open market.
