Hawks plan to waive guard Devin Carter
Atlanta plans to waive guard Devin Carter, according to Jake Fischer. He was owed a guaranteed $5,158,080 this season, and the Hawks declined his fourth-year option worth $7,370,897.
Carter never played a regular-season game for Atlanta after Sacramento traded him and a 2033 second-round pick to the Hawks in June for the draft rights to Alpha Kaba, a cost-cutting move for the Kings. Fischer suggests the pick, not Carter, was the real target of that deal.
The 13th pick in 2024, Carter appeared in just 74 games over two seasons in Sacramento while dealing with shoulder, ankle and back issues. Once he clears waivers he becomes a free agent for the first time, and the Kings cannot re-sign him under the trade's rules.
The move trims Atlanta's guaranteed contracts to the 15-man limit, following the earlier departures of fellow former lottery picks Zaccharie Risacher and Jonathan Kuminga.
