Kyle Filipowski had offseason surgery for a herniated disc and has missed both of Utah's preseason games. Coach Will Hardy said Saturday that Filipowski still isn't doing on-court work, though he's progressing and hopeful to return soon.
The injury comes as center Jusuf Nurkic is also out for at least four weeks with a toe injury, thinning an otherwise crowded Jazz frontcourt.
Utah has signed forward/center Mohamed Wague after he went undrafted in June. The 6'10" big played limited roles at West Virginia and Alabama before starting as a senior at Oklahoma, averaging 6.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks.
Kevin Love is still an unrestricted free agent after spending last season with Utah, where he averaged 12.6 rebounds and 3.9 assists per 36 minutes off the bench. Bleacher Report's Grant Hughes floated the Lakers as a fit who could use a veteran exception to sign him.
Utah has signed forward Taylor Funk. He averaged 11.3 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 41 games for the San Diego Clippers' G League affiliate last season. Funk also has G League experience with the Capital City Go-Go and the Maine Celtics in prior years.
