Duren wants $200M as extension talks with Pistons stall

Jalen Duren has until October 1 to accept an extension or play next season on a $9.6 million qualifying offer, entering restricted free agency in 2026.

ESPN's Shams Charania reports Detroit's offer has reached five years and $200 million, matching what Duren's camp wants, but the sides remain far apart with camp a week away and it is uncertain whether Duren will attend media day.

Duren's camp had cited Amen Thompson's five-year, $208 million Houston extension as a comparable, according to The Athletic's Sam Amick and Hunter Patterson.

Duren was initially eligible for a five-year, $287 million deal after making All-NBA Third Team. Playing out the qualifying offer would shrink his max next summer to four years and $177 million. Detroit has roughly $46 million in tax room but must also work out an extension for Ausar Thompson.
