Davis, Wizards table max extension talks until after tipoff
Anthony Davis and Washington will hold off on extension talks until after the season, The Athletic's David Aldridge reports. Davis holds a $62.8M player option for 2027-28; turning it down would make him eligible for a four-year, $275M extension through 2030-31.
Aldridge and Josh Robbins say Washington is almost certain to pass, citing Davis's age, injury history and the team's need for cap flexibility near the aprons. Davis said Monday he intends to finish the season in Washington first, with no timeline or figures discussed.
He wants to see how the Wizards build around him and Trae Young, including their recent struggles, before deciding whether to stay. General manager Will Dawkins said Davis remains focused despite the delay. ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk reports Davis could push for a trade if Washington stumbles early.
