Clippers front-office chaos stalls Kawhi Leonard trade to Toronto
A trade sending Kawhi Leonard to Toronto is reportedly a done deal in principle, per league sources cited by NBC Sports, and won't fall apart.
The holdup is administrative: the league suspended Clippers president Lawrence Frank amid the salary-cap circumvention case, forcing a front-office reshuffle. Five first-round picks were also forfeited in that ruling, and Leonard himself was fined $700,000.
General manager Trent Redden is expected to take over on an interim basis, though that isn't yet formalized. With no urgency before training camps open Sept. 22, the trade is expected to become official in the coming weeks.
The deal sends Leonard to Toronto for Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick, two unprotected firsts, two first-round swaps and a second-rounder. Leonard was seen with Raptors teammates in Miami this week and told a fan asking about Toronto, "I hope so."
