Clayton looks safe as Grizzlies trim roster, Russell seen as cut risk
Memphis has to get from 19 contracts down to 15 before Opening Night Eve on October 19, and Jake Fischer reports Walter Clayton Jr. has a good chance of surviving those cuts. Fischer names Jordan Hawkins, Kris Murray and Micah Peavy as players facing varying risk.
D'Angelo Russell, acquired in July's six-team trade, is seen as the veteran most likely to be released. Clayton joined Memphis in February in the trade that sent Jaren Jackson Jr. to Utah, and posted 9.7 points and 5.7 assists a game in 24 outings with the Grizzlies.
