Celtics eye Devin Carter once he clears Hawks waivers
Boston is interested in signing Devin Carter once he clears waivers from Atlanta, according to NBA insider Jake Fischer. The Hawks acquired Carter from Sacramento in June as part of a second-apron salary dump before waiving him, months after Sacramento took him 13th overall in 2024.
Carter averaged 8.9 points and 2.7 assists last season while shooting just 26.3% from three. He rates well in offensive rebounding and defensive activity metrics, and his defense and Providence ties give Boston reason to take a flier.
The Celtics sit about $1.7M below the luxury tax, and a minimum one-year deal would carry a $2.45M cap hit. It remains unclear whether any contract would be guaranteed, partial or two-way. Boston has an open 15th roster spot and a two-way slot, with Milos Uzan also competing for the guard depth spot.
