Butler's expiring deal could make him trade bait for Warriors

Brian Windhorst said on the Hoop Collective podcast that the Warriors could still trade Jimmy Butler if a difference-making star becomes available before the February deadline, with Butler's torn ACL and $56.8 million expiring salary framed as a useful trade chip rather than part of an active plan.

Windhorst noted Golden State has discussed moving Butler before, reportedly dangling him for Giannis Antetokounmpo last year, and turned down an Anthony Davis deal this offseason.

The Athletic's Anthony Slater separately reported the Warriors are also open to simply letting Butler's contract expire, preserving cap flexibility for a possible 2027 reset.

They also hold several tradeable first-round picks that could be attached to any Butler deal. Fadeaway World floated Myles Turner and Davis as hypothetical targets, though nothing beyond the expiring-contract angle is confirmed.
