Blazers keep talking extension with Henderson's camp

General manager Joe Cronin says Portland has been negotiating a rookie extension with Scoot Henderson's representatives ahead of the October 19 deadline, according to Jason Quick of The Athletic.

Cronin called Henderson a high priority but said missing the deadline wouldn't worry him, since the team would still control his rights through restricted free agency next summer.

ClutchPoints reporter Brett Siegel says Henderson likely won't get a new deal before the 2026-27 season, arguing he would need to prove he's worth more than the $16 million taxpayer midlevel exception to earn one.

Without an extension, Henderson would play out his rookie contract and become a restricted free agent in summer 2027, giving Portland the right to match any offer sheet.

The notes also touched on Ja Morant's fit in Portland and ownership's commitment to keeping the franchise at the Moda Center.
