Cleveland has signed guard Sean McNeil to an Exhibit 10 contract. He's expected to head to the Cleveland Charge once the G League season starts. McNeil appeared in 44 games for the Charge last season, averaging 9.5 points on 46/43/92 shooting.
Bleacher Report's Grant Hughes named Sacramento as a top landing spot for free agent Cam Whitmore, arguing a team with little to lose should take a flier on him.
Kevin Love remains unsigned with about a month left before the season starts, after averaging 6.7 points and 5.8 rebounds over 37 games for Utah last season.
New Orleans signed and waived Johnny O'Neil again, per Keith Smith of Spotrac, a repeat of last September's move to retain his G League rights and set up a bonus worth up to $91K.
A roundup of contenders with roster gaps heading into camp lists the Lakers lacking a starting power forward, with Sandro Mamukelashvili the only bench option at the spot. The Heat need a playmaking point guard beyond backup Davion Mitchell, and efforts to move Nikola Jovic have gone nowhere.
Executives around the league say Houston would only fetch a first-round pick for Kevin Durant now, far less than Phoenix got a year ago. An anonymous executive said Durant's off-court baggage complicates any deal despite his scoring.
Jake Fischer said on his Bleacher Report stream that Jordan Hawkins, newly dealt from New Orleans to Memphis, is likely to get a real look at a roster spot. Memphis carries 19 players for 15 spots, and Fischer flagged D'Angelo Russell, Kris Murray, Walter Clayton Jr. and Micah Peavy as most at risk if Hawkins sticks.
Lonzo Ball remains a free agent months after Utah waived him following a deadline trade from Cleveland. Basketball Forever suggested his NBA career may be nearing its end, citing a career-low 4.6 points per game and shooting slumps in 35 games with the Cavaliers last season.
+2Sam Amick of The Athletic named Paolo Banchero as a possible next star on the move, alongside usual suspects like Anthony Davis and Domantas Sabonis.
NBA insider Jake Fischer said on Bleacher Report's livestream that Cleveland spoke with free-agent guard Gabe Vincent before finalizing James Harden's new contract. Those discussions never turned into an offer, and Fischer said Vincent will not be joining the team.
